Petasites japonicus varigata

Round leaves up to a foot or so across, very attractively splashed with white and cream popping out of the ground on petioles maybe 8 inches or so high. Not nearly as aggressive as the other petasites. It runs about a bit in the shady border here, but plays nicely (and looks beautiful with) the other perennials. Petasites generally prefer wet, boggy soil, but we've got this one in a fairly dry, sandy bed that gets no supplemental water, and it is perfectly happy. It probably would grow larger in all its parts and be more aggressive in a wetter spot. Zone 5 Joseph
