Paeonia caucasica

Botanists agree to disagree as to whether it is a species in its own right, i must admit i am a bit confused but what does it matter really, they are absolutely a treasure in the garden. I will use the names that Joseph Halda gave then when he collected the seed and you can do your own research when they are in your garden. Paeonia caucasica is native to the Caucasus, Its preferred habitats are meadows and clearings in the mountain forests, from foothills to subalpine zones. Flowers are large, single, and 8-10 cm in diameter; they are often bright crimson or pink sometimes deep rose colored. Caucasica blooms before the fern leafs, making it very early indeed. It is rarely offered and highly prized by gardeners. These are all division from wild collected seed grown plants in our garden and are virgin genetic material. You can order anytime but we can ship those in the fall only!
