Arrowhead Alpine's on-site retail shopping season begins on April 13. Come visit the nursery at 1310 N. Gregory Road in Fowlerville, Michigan. Retail shopping hours are Wednesday to Sunday, 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. If you can't visit us at our retail location in Fowlerville, order online at the Arrowhead Shopping Cart.
 Sexy as Hell Helleborus
We've been busy drooling over an amazing set of helleborus we got in this spring. Gorgeous yellows with spots and slashes, huge flowers. They are stunning. See for yourself here. Brigitta went a little nuts picking out ones she wanted for herself in the garden, but we did manage to restrain ourselves and have some amazing ones for sale. The late spring means things look different than usual when we open, a lot more early primroses, narcissus, and other goodies that are usually over by the time we open are in full bloom, so if you are local, stop by to get an eyeful of the best of the earliest. 
And finally, if you do make it out to the nursery, say hello to Joseph Tychonievich, Arrowhead's new Nursery Manager. Joseph has an all-consuming love and enthusiasm for plants and a horticulture degree from Ohio State. He spent a summer working for the great Akira Shibamichi in Japan, and has a book, Creating New Heirlooms: A Gardener's Guide to Breeding Plants. Joseph has also been a repeat guest on Public Radio's show The Splendid Table! We want you to know that at Arrowhead, we don't just care about our plants. Visit us, and you'll meet numerous cats, be amazed at the number and diversity of butterflies in the air, and, at the right time in the spring, you might just see baby praying mantises emerging from their egg sacs in our greenhouses. What you won't see at Arrowhead are bottles of insecticides or fungicides. Pests in our greenhouses are controlled the old-fashioned way: by a healthy population of natural predators. You can rest assured that when plants arrive from us they haven't been sprayed with anything that will harm you, your family, or anything else that lives in your garden.

Over time in this business you tend to acquire a number of plants that mostly passed around between plant collectors, the majority of which are never for sale. Many of these plants are essentially unobtainable. Lots of luck finding any of them at your local garden center, or for that matter anywhere. These are mostly things that are in short supply and not cheap. I suspect most will sell out and may not be offered again for many years. We have decided to part with a few very choice things.
